“The Beatles: 1962-1966” is our first foray into the spirit-lifting breakthrough period that made the Beatles the big bang of 20th Century culture. To all of you, thanks for your support and input, and there really could not be a better time than now to hear “I Want To Hold Your Hand’, “She Loves You” “From Me To You”, “Can’t Buy Me Love", “Eight Days A Week”, “A Hard Day’s Night”, “Ticket To Ride", “Day Tripper”, “All My Loving’, “Paperback Writer”, and moreI To our ears, it's the greatest music ever made, performed by a superb gathering of musicians who reflect the energy and heart that shines through each song.
As winter turned to spring in 1973, rumors swirled around the sessions for the “Ringo” album in Los Angeles, just as the definitive compilation of the Beatles' earth-shattering first four years as recording artists was released. “1962-1966” , i.e. The Red Album , went 15x platinum and was number one in Austria, Germany, Japan, Norway, France, and was number one in Cash Box in the United States.
“1960’s Belonged to the Beatles” was the headline of Jack Garner’s review for Gannett News., run in hundreds of North American newspapers. “It’s hard to imagine what music we’d be listening to right now if not for the Beatles” he says in the opening words of the piece. “Rock Music was going in monotonous circles...And then came those four startling young men from Liverpool, and our pop music and our culture were enlivened with invigorating new music”. “ ‘I Feel Fine’ opens with Harrison’s fantastic guitar line…’Yesterday’ has the Beatles traveling into a world of quartet strings, magnificent harmony, and incredible beauty”.
