Village Theatre, Danville, CA
Marshall Crenshaw joins with Peter Case for a double bill featuring two of America's best songwriters from the last four decades. Marshall makes a rare west coast tour stop with his band which features Derrick Anderson on bass & vocals, Mark Orthmann on drums, and Fernando Perdomo on guitar and vocals .
Marshall's first album, "Marshall Crenshaw" had Stereo Review raving that "This is the strongest debut album by an American rocker that I have ever been privileged to review", and from that foundation he has built an unassailable catalog of classic songs. Among them are "Cynical Girl", "Whenever You're On My Mind", "Someday, Someway", "You're My favorite Waste of Time", "Till I Hear It From You", and "Walk Hard".
Peter Case is nothing if not a genuine American troubadour, and as with Mr. Crenshaw, a short list of his "best" might erroneously suggest that a few songs could encompass the depth and breadth of his gift. Yet we must start somewhere, so "North Coast Blues", "Have You Ever Been in Trouble" ( from his 2023 release "Doctor Moan") , "Dream About You" ," I Shook His Hand", and his Plimsouls era classic "A Million Miles Away" are but a taste, a glimpse into the catalog.
We would be remiss if we did not mention Marshall's band, so here they are:
Derrick Anderson: The long time bass player in the Bangles, Derrick also toured with Dave Davies of the Kinks. A sought after session player, he recently made a heavenly rhtythm section alongside legendary drummer Jim Keltner in sessions produced by Peter Asher.
Mark Ortmann was the co founder and drummer for the Bottle Rockets from their inception to their retirement in 2021. Their Eleven studio albums and two live albums all feature Mark's rock-solid backbeat.
Fernando Perdomo is a guitarist, vocalist, pianist, bass player, writer, producer and arranger whose work has put him alongside Jakob Dylan ("Echo in The Canyon"), Andy Pratt, Denny Seiwell, John Wetton, and countless others. He takes time off from his extensive studio work to play lead guitar on tour with Marshall.
