“The Beatles: 1962-1966” brings us back to the spirit-lifting breakthrough period that made the Beatles the big bang of 20th Century culture. As winter turned to spring in 1973, rumors swirled around the sessions for the “Ringo” album in Los Angeles, just as the definitive compilation of the Beatles' earth-shattering first four years as recording artists was released. “1962-1966” , i.e. The Red Album , went 15x platinum and was number one in Austria, Germany, Japan, Norway, France, and was number one in Cash Box in the United States.

“1960’s Belonged to the Beatles” was the headline of Jack Garner’s review for Gannett News., run in hundreds of North American newspapers. “It’s hard to imagine what music we’d be listening to right now if not for the Beatles” he says in the opening words of the piece. “Rock Music was going in monotonous circles...And then came those four startling young men from Liverpool, and our pop music and our culture were enlivened with invigorating new music”. “ ‘I Feel Fine’ opens with Harrison’s fantastic guitar line…’Yesterday’ has the Beatles traveling into a world of quartet strings, magnificent harmony, and incredible beauty”.
